Capable of attracting countless target consumers in a short period of time, exhibitions have maintained a rapid growth in China in recent years. Exhibition interpreters make a huge difference at those exhibitions as they help bridge the culural and language gaps between exhibitors and visitors coming from different countries and make it possible for them to carry out business negotiations. Many hold the view that compared with simultaneous conference interpreting and other forms of interpreting happening on formal occasions, exhibition interpreting is easier as exhibition interpreting is less intense since interpreters do not have to deliver the message accurately and swiftly to a large audience by listening, taking notes and interpreting. Therefore there is limited research in this respect, and well-qualified exhibition interpreters are in great need.In light of the vast contrast between the huge market demand for exhibition interpreters and relatively few research in exhibition interpreting, the reporter views it as a necessity to present some issues encountered during the process such as barriers in cross-cultural communication, interpretation of trade and exhibit-related terminology and the interpreter's subjectivity. Meanwhile the reporter tentatively puts forward some corresponding coping tactics in an attempt to provide some guidelines for fellow exhibition interpreters and hopefully enrich interpretation research.
