Analysis On Exhibition Interpreter’s Roles-A Report On Interpreting Practice Of 2018 China International Small And Medium-sized Enterprises Fair

Exhibition interpreting arises from the flourish of exhibition industry which requires more and more exhibition interpreters.Furthermore,as exhibitions consist of different fields such as industry,agriculture,commerce,finance and tourism,professional exhibition interpreters with brilliant knowledge are needed by the exhibition market accordingly.Exhibition interpreting is a typical interpreting featuring specialization,which aims to help people who speak different languages to achieve trade cooperation.To achieve this goal,exhibition interpreter plays a vital role in interpreting practice.However,at present,most of the exhibition interpreters in the market are part-time interpreters and most of them are students who lack of professionalism and are not clear about the interpreter’s role diversity.As a result,contradictions in the interpreting practice of the exhibition appeared frequently and even the interpreting work couldn’t continue.In order to enable the exhibition interpreter to understand and apply their roles wisely and thus to better complete the interpreting practice,the author chose the interpreting practice of China International SME Fair from October 10 to October 13,2018 as a material to analyze her roles through which can enrich exhibition interpretation and exhibition interpreter role’s research to promote the development of the exhibition industry finally.Based on previous exhibition interpretation researches and her own interpreting practice,the author concluded that the exhibition interpretation has the characteristics of professionalism,commercialization,cultural diversity and interaction.Combing characteristics of exhibition interpretation with the theories of interpreter’s role in the exhibition,the author noted all the interpreters’ roles in the interpreting practice materials and analyzed the different roles consisting of interpreter,salesman,cultural mediator and promoter and assistant played by the author in her interpreting practice with detailed cases.From the tagging statistics,it showed that being an interpreter was undoubtedly the main role accounting for 68.79%,and the salesmen accounting for 24.84% the cultural mediator and promoter with 5.09% and assistant with 1.27% followed respectively.However,the author occasionally came across conflicts in playing these roles.In such cases,the interpreter should play the role of interpreter as her vital task and other roles should give in to the role of interpreter.Inspired by this exhibition interpreting practice,the author found that the exhibition interpreter should adopt himself into multiple roles flexibly on the premise of the main role of the interpreter so that the interpreting practice would be a satisfied success.
