A Translation Project Report Based On The Translation Of SOFITEL Annual Training Policy

This thesis is completed on the basis of the translation of SOFITEL Annual Training Policy. The source text is written by Sofitel staffs and is translated by the translator under their authorization.In this paper, the writer analyzed features of the source text and put forward two translation strategies for practical texts,which are:referring to corresponding parallel texts and taking account of technical writing principles.According to the report, an in-depth analysis of the source text and the proper use of parallel texts can help the translator produce a high-quality translation. In a translation process, parallel texts can provide the translator with background information and technical term equivalents. Therefore, the translator should read parallel texts and compare them with the source text in order to generalize the features of the source text, textual requirements of the target text and the needs of target readers. Besides, much attention should be paid to the principles of technical writing, which are:preciseness,conciseness, and usability. The translator should take account of these three principles to produce a translation with concise and precise content and clear and exquisite format, so that the translation would be more accessible to the target readers.
