The Application Of Parallel Texts In The Translation Practice Of Technical Specifications For Procurement

This paper is a translation project report.The task described in the project is to translate the text of Differential Pressure Transmitter Equipment Procurement in the technical specifications for procurement of a certain company from Chinese to English.In the process of translation,the parallel text plays an important role and brings much convenience to the translator.The purpose of this paper is to explore the application of parallel texts in the translation of technical specifications for procurement,so as to bring new inspirations to translators in the translation of professional materials.In the process of conducting this translation project,the author mainly encountered the following three problems: Firstly,how to correctly understand the content of the technical specifications for procurement;secondly,how to correctly understand and use the terminology in this field;thirdly,how to correctly translate a form,content and style that are consistent with the target language.From the perspective of Skopos theory,the author found that this method can effectively solve the above three problems by consulting parallel texts.Whether it is a parallel text from the source language or the target language,the author can make up for the lack of professional aspects and present the translation in a natural language style.Under the guidance of Skopos theory,the author intends to analyze and explore the functions of parallel texts in translation from three aspects: terminology,sentences,and language style.Translation practice proves that referring to parallel texts not only greatly improves the accuracy of general text translation,but also provides a good reference for the translation of materials in the professional field,such as the technical specifications for procurement.
