A Practice Report On The Translation Of Subtitle Of Shakespeare Uncovered 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'

This report elaborates on my subtitle translation of Shakespeare Uncovered 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. I completed the translation and checking within 10 days as required and improved my translation. The subtitle translation group was satisfied with the faithful and smooth translation draft.The subtitle text is a literature criticism of A Midsummer Night's Dream with elegant words and diversity of style that are not easy to translate. I aim for a faithful,fluent and audience-friendly translation draft. This report is divided into five parts,including Task Description, Process Description, Preparation for Translation, Case Analyses and Summary. Chapter 1 introduces the source and content of this task.Chapter 2 is about the process of this practice. In the Preparation for Translation, I illustrate the plan, background information and references collected. Besides, I also summarize the features of subtitle. Chapter 4 is the essence of this report, which mainly analyzes the translation from three aspects---meaning equivalence, genre equivalence and stylistic equivalence. Besides, the applications of translation skills and theory are also illustrated. In Chapter 5, I summarize the experiences gained from this practice, deficiencies and the improvements must be made in the future.By writing this report, I expect to improve myself and provide some suggestions for subtitle translators.
