| The translation task is to translate the teaching reference book, A Course in English Language Teaching, which is related to teaching theory and practice. The translation purpose is to provide theoretical knowledge and practice guidance on English teaching for high school English teachers in China. To focus on the practical use of teaching reference book is chosen as the translation strategy, whose theoretical basis is the Function plus Loyalty put forward by Christiane Nord. In other words, the translation strategy is determined by the communicative function of the translation, and when thinking about the communicative function, the translator should consider the interests of the source-text author, the target-text readers and the initiator and deal with their relationships as a coordinator.Different texts have different translation intentions. In the translation of A Course in English Language, not only the information on teaching methods and practices should be accurately reproduced but also the communicative intention of target readers should be considered to guarantee the communicative function of the translation. For the translation of concepts, terms and linguistic knowledge, if they have been widely known by target readers, their Chinese versions can be borrowed directly from the existing literatures to make sure the coherence; otherwise, the new terms and concepts should be customized.Sometimes comments or explanations are also needed. For the translation of some common teaching methods, they should be listed concisely to be used conveniently by high school teachers.However, none of a translation theory can solve all problems. This report is a brief discussion on the practical use in translating teaching reference book. There are still some problems to be solved in this field. Therefore, the Function plus Loyalty approach is really a practical guidance in translating teaching reference book. |
