Reader's Response Theory has been generally accepted by translators in translating literary work which requires the actual participation of readers for keeping its integrity as a whole finished work. As one of the decisive factors in spreading the translated literary works, readers play very important role in making a national work a piece of world literature. And Reader's Response Theory has proved to be very instructive in literature translation practice.Due to the inherent differences between Chinese and Western languages and cultures, I came upon the difficulty in dealing with the culture-loaded words in my translating Phil Klay's Redeployment. In order to deliver the authentic features of the original works to target readers,I attempted to adopt the most suitable methods in translating the culture-loaded words based on Reader's Response Theory.Written by the American young writer Phil Klay, Redeployment is a collection of realistic short stories about the American soldiers' life in the Iraq War and their life back to America. Taking two stories out of the collection as translating materials, i.e. “Redeployment”and “Money as a Weapon Machine”, this thesis delves into the translation strategies by analyzing four kinds of culture-loaded words, namely, military term culture-loaded words, landscape description culture-loaded words, Iraqi culture-loaded words, and American culture-loaded words. And four approaches of methods are proposed in culture-loaded words and expressions translation, i.e., annotated transliteration, literal translation and interpretation method, free translation and omission. Through the analysis on translating the culturally-loaded words in Redeployment, the author draw a conclusion that all approaches should be selectively and properly used according to the specific language circumstance in order to have an accurate expression on the source language. This thesis aims to provide some references to culture-loaded words, improve the author's translation ability by further understanding the Reader's Response Theory and translation methods usage.
