Giving suggestions to others is a common communicative behavior in our daily life. This involves a common speech act —Suggestion speech act. Suggestion speech act plays an important role for speech act researching. How to give suggestions is constrained by communicative object, culture, mentality and society. The improper suggestions will lead to the obstacle to communication. But foreign learners often make mistakes in giving suggestions in real-life situations. This paper, with a survey, explores the acquisition of intermediate level Korean students on the basis of study of the suggestion speech act in Chinese, and puts forward relevant suggestions, in order to improve their intercultural communicative competence.The thesis includes six parts: The first part gives an introduction of this paper. The second part gives an introduction of suggestion speech act theory and definition. A survey of intermediate level Korean learners is made in the third part. We investigate the usage of suggestion speech act of intermediate level Korean learners with a questionnairesurvey. The fourth part makes a analysis of the survey. The results of the survey show:(1) Imperative mood is the most numerous of intermediate level Korean learners, next is declarative mood and interrogative mood, the fewest is exclamatory mood.(2) The usage frequency of direct suggestion is much higher than indirect suggestion.(3) “ using address forms” and “giving suggested reasons” are the most frequently used modifier.(4) Only the two factors of social distance and degree of embarrassment do affect the choice of linguistic patterns and strategies in the realization of the act by intermediate level Korean learners. This chapter explains the causes why Korean learners behave like those phenomenon above, including learners’ language level, negative language transfer, the influence of the teaching material and the choice and control over pragmatic knowledge already gained. The fifth part discusses teaching condition about suggestion speech act. In this chapter, combining with teaching situation, suggestions are presented on textbook compilation, teaching process and learners themselves, on the basis of the survey. Part six is conclusion, which concludes the major findings and disadvantages.
