Gile's Effort Model can be applied in contest interpreting, and plays a leading role in it. It can guide the interp reters in training, practice, comprehension of main ideas before the interpreting contes t and it can al so teach the interpreters ho w to do the comprehension, reformulation phases as we ll as the inform ation processing phase. Through the Third National Englis h Interpreting Competition, this paper figures out how Gile's Effort Model guides the inte rpreters before and after the contest interpreting and how it guides the interp reters in com prehension, information processing and reformulation. With the guide of Gile's Effort Model, the interpreter can have better perform ance, no m atter in lis tening, note-taking, m emory, comprehension, note-reading or information output. Hence the conclusion, this Model can help interpreters better arrange their time and energy, better adjust to the contest and better process the infor mation. This pa per is divided into three parts, nam ely, overview of consecutive interpreting and the Third Natio nal English Interpreting Competition, Gile's Effort Model and the Third Natio nal English Interpreting Competition, as well as the analysis of issues in contest consecutive interpreting from the perspective of Gile's Effort Model.
