With the growth in communication and cooperation between China and western countries, translation as a means to understand and make use of foreign medical development is playing an increasing important role.Guided by the theory of Text Typology, this report on translation discusses some of the translation techniques related to medical translation from English to Chinese. The material chosen for the practice is from the first chapter of Wardlaw's Perspectives in Nutrition 8th Edition, focusing on three issues in terms of translation:extension and specification of semi-scientific words, division of complex sentences, translation of impersonal sentences and coherence at the textual level. It is found that the preparation for translation plays an important role in the translation procedure, including not only translation theories and skills, but also related knowledge about what to be translated. Besides, as to informative texts, like medical English, translators should try to faithfully reproduce the source-text qualities in content and function by using accurate words and appropriate division of sentence structures. This practice has explored a practical way for medical English translation and provided valuable experience for the future translation work.
