| Wonder Journey to End of the World, a tourist and exploratory documentary series, was broadcast by CCTV documentary channel. This study selects two episodes of Wonder Journey to End of the World, Antarctic Continent and The Fascinating Aurora. Main lines of these two episodes are leaded by Xiao Yuan and Eva,respectively, and sublines of these stories are set to their team. The whole documentary, which transmits the persistent spirit of Chinese people pursuing dreams to the western, shows the huge power of the nature, tininess of human beings and the persevering character of Chinese people.Thisstudy, based on relevance theory, embracing three characteristics of subtitle, conciseness, fluency and instantaneity, analyses and translates conversational language of Wonder Journey to End of the World. On characteristic of conversational language, redundant information sentence, element missing sentence and logic missing sentence, which appears frequently on the conversations, applies translation strategies of deletion, addition, explanation etc., achieving the desired effects of conciseness, fluency and instantaneity. On cultural characteristics of source language discourse of conversation, it is adopted the strategies of naturalization or explanation according to different cases. When translating, the translator needs to consider the main point of interlocutor, choosing corresponding translation strategies and making the translation achieve the optimal relevance and expect of target language audiences. The study shows that:First, the translation strategies of deletion and reduction can be applied in the translation of redundant information sentences. Based on the conciseness of subtitle, translator should delete and reduce information appropriately in redundant information sentence when translating.Second, the translation strategies of addition and explanation can be applied in the translation of element missing sentence and logic missing sentence. Based on the fluency of subtitle, translator should explain information appropriately in element missing sentence and logic missing sentence when translating to make the plot more fluency.Third, reconstruction strategies can make the subtitle smoother. Based on the instantaneity of subtitle, translator should reconstitute sentences which are structured differently by grammatical differences when translating to make the audience acquiring information.Fourth, strategies of naturalization or explanation can be used in translation of conversation with cultural diversity. It makes target language audience achieve the optimal relevance.Relevance theory offers a dependable theoretical basis to subtitle translation. On this basis, appropriate translation strategies will provide an accurate translation to conversational subtitle of documentary. This study expects setting to more translation strategies in the future and doing in-depth studies. |
