Translation Strategies Of Four-character Structure In Qinhuangdao Tour Commentary

With flourishing of foreign tourists traveling in China, the language barrier has become a prominent problem. How to make an effective introduction about the tourism sources of China? How to attract more foreign tourists? Such translating problems of the Chinese commentary to English should not be ignored.It is the different cultural backgrounds of the Chinese people and English people that cause the different language styles and forms about tour commentary. Generally speaking, English tour commentaries are featured by concise and practical styles of writing and simple language with a naturalness beauty; while much attention of Chinese tour commentaries should be paid to neat antithesis and rhetoric. Some relative adjustments about translating the Chinese tour commentary to English are needed in order to make them know the local tourism situation, because the audience of tour commentary is the English speaking tourists.Chinese tour commentary, as a kind of service text, is introduced by lots of four-character structures. Four-character structures show the charm of the Chinese, and reflect the long history of Chinese culture. At first, this paper introduces the translation rules of four-character structures(such as the rule of concise and rhyme, the rule of natural and artistic conception, the rule of accuracy and cultural beauty). Then, it's how to translate the four-character structures. The four-character structures can be translated into one English word, varied English phrases, and independent sentences. To present the beauty of four-character structures and attract traveler's attentions, the translator still has many things to do. This paper aims to provide some references to the tour commentary translation and improve the translator's translation ability.
