Teachers are the core of the "three teachings".In recent years,with the popularization of B.Kumaravadivelu's "post-method era",the research on "teacher development" has received increasing attention.Research on teachers of Chinese as a foreign language(TCFL)have evolved from the "ideal" to the "reality",and emphasize not only on the qualities and abilities that the teachers should have,but also on knowledge and teaching philosophy that the teachers really possess.This thesis describes a "reality" case study of a teacher,which was conducted under the inspiration of the "post-method" theory.The case study focused on Zhang Yanyun,who is a Chinese language teacher from Beijing A University.By observing the classroom teaching and analyzing the teaching recordings of Teacher Zhang,several strengths of Teacher Zhang was noted,including having a solid background in philology of Chinese language,possessing an excellent awareness in teaching communication skills,and taking a comprehensive student-oriented teaching approach.For the latter,the ability to adopt situational teaching methods anytime and anywhere is the main focus of Teacher Zhang's teaching characteristics.Early research on classroom teaching is a process of comprehensive discovery,followed by gradual narrowing of the scope to specific focuses.On this basis,we conducted some interviews to obtain necessary materials for this narrative research.It was found that Teacher Zhang's success is owed to her personal characters and efforts,as well as to the key events which happened throughout her career growth.Teacher Zhang's attitude towards students,perspective of teachers and conceptions of teaching are the main supporting ideas behind her outstanding teaching characteristics.This thesis hopes to show the comprehensive career growth of a good Chinese language teacher through narrative research,in order to provide an example and role model for novice teachers.We propose that emphasis should also be placed on "reality" research,especially on the personal behavior of outstanding teachers,to give importance to the core position of the teachers,in order to put forward constructive suggestions for teachers.
