With globalization and internationalization becoming a daily occurrence, translation sector in China, as in the rest of the world, is experiencing a boom. The global translation sector is witnessing a "golden age" of development. China, one of the world's fastest growing economies, has also witnessed an unparalleled growth in its translation sector. With increasing economic, cultural, scientific communications on the international level, especially China's entry into the WTO, and the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and the Shanghai World Expo in 2010, translation market in China continues to expand. Accordingly, the professionalism of translation sector is gaining speed. At present, interpreters who have a good command of a professional area are able to gain the competitive edge in the market. In addition, numerous experts and scholars with good foreign language in the area of the sciences, humanities and technology joining interpretation team has become a popular trend.Medicine, one of these examples, is no exception. China has been actively participating in international health affairs, and has carried out extensive multilateral and bilateral cooperation and exchanges. The rapid development of the information technology also presents another big boost to the healthcare industry. However, being faced with new opportunities, there is great a challenge of lacking professional talents. Considering the market development prospects and career planning, the author conducted this simulated interpretation practice after the study of relevant medical knowledge. This practice report is based on Module Four Prevention of Cancer of the free online course Introduction to the Science of Cancer offered by The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center-Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC-James). The author's task is to analyze the whole process of the interpretation, and sum up experiences and insufficiencies so as to provide some improvement suggestions for further study and practice in the future. To be specific, the thesis elaborated the whole process from pre-task preparation to analysis after the event, including the collection of background knowledge and related materials, the application of interpretation skills and strategy choice under the guidance of the interpretive theory during the process of interpreting as well as the analysis and summarization of specific cases. The report is a detailed analysis of the specific interpretation practice under the guidance of interpretive theory, and the application of the theory during the process enhanced the author's understanding of interpreters' mental activities. Thus the author can grasp the central idea of the source speech on the whole in a better way, and convey the original message more orderly and smoothly. Meanwhile, the problems and solution strategies found during the interpretation can be applied to the work and practice in the future, which also can be regarded as reference to other interpreting learners.
