A Report On Guide Interpreting At Beijing Shicha Lake

This report is based on one guide interpreting task at Beijing Shicha Lake. In the guide interpreting task, the author interpreted on-the-spot presentations of guide to a Canadian guest, and interpreted the guest’s remarks to the guide. In this article, the author analyzed the performance of the author in the practice of tour guide interpretation, based on the theoretical knowledge of the translation studies in the stage of postgraduate. In the task, the form of interpretation is Chinese-English mostly. It covered many fields, such as history, geography, architecture, culture, folk art and so on. Under the guide of functionalist theories, the author has adopted many interpretation strategies such as omission, paraphrase, amplification, conversion and so on. And this article also has demonstrated the problems and relevant solutions.This report was divided into four parts. The first part is task description. It includes a brief description of the interpreting task, guide interpreting, requirements of the client, the meaning and value of the guide interpreting and theoretical preparation. The second part is process of description. It includes task pre-task preparations, process of interpretation and the reflections from the guest and guide. The third part is case study. It includes the difficulties in the interpretation, adopting interpretation strategies and relevant solutions. The forth part is conclusion. It includes the author’s major findings and the suggestions for future studies.The report is designed to analyze the problems in the interpreting process and suggest some strategies to solve these problems. Through this guide interpreting, the author improves the ability on both interpreting theory and interpreting practice. This practical also can help author clear the destination of the future.
