"Fuzziness", a word threading through a concept to the foundation of several disciplines, has caught the attention of scholars around the world. Instead of being the "bruise" of language, fuzziness constitutes a unique receipt for the beauty of language. This thesis is to help readers find the fuzziness in traditional Chinese poetry. At the same time, methods of how to address the fuzzy phenomenon in poetry during its translation are also posed. At first, the thesis introduces the purpose, research contents and methods of the paper to readers. As poetry is considered as the crystallization of language, it is rather meaningful to do a research on the fuzzy phenomenon in traditional Chinese poetry. The research is conducted through analysis of Xu Yuanchong's translated works of those Chinese poetries. The thesis is devoted to a thorough classification of fuzzy phenomenon in traditional poetry. In this chapter, fuzziness is classified into four sectors:"semantic fuzziness", "phonetic fuzziness", "syntactic fuzziness" and "image fuzziness". Detailed cases are demonstrated to support the classification.Apart from the theoretic classification of fuzziness, it is necessary for the author to demonstrate several classic examples of fuzziness in traditional Chinese poetry. Fuzzy phenomenon usually exist in the noun of "number", "place", "color" and etc.The mutual relationship between " fuzziness" and " preciseness" hold the key for addressing fuzzy phenomenon in poetry. Accordingly, the author poses four strategies in addressing the fuzzy phenomenon, namely "to translate the fuzzy phenomenon into precise phenomenon"," to translate the fuzzy phenomenon into fuzzy phenomenon", " to translate the precise phenomenon into fuzzy phenomenon" and " to translate the precise phenomenon into precise phenomenon".This thesis unfolds the real relationship between "fuzziness" and "preciseness". As a poetry translator, one shall master the skill of catching the very "fuzziness" in different poetries. The success of the translated version lies in whether the soul of the poetries are transported.
