Language and culture are inseparable.English Teaching in China has long history,but British and American intercultural background knowledge is often despised and even ignored.Art majors' public college English teaching tends to focus on book knowledge and pays less attention on understanding western culture and intercultural knowledge,and inadequate attention on broadening their knowledge and horizons.Therefore,Cultivation of Intercultural Communication Competence in Art College Freshmen's English Listening Teaching has important practical significance,and this study applies intercultural communicative talents training model into art majors' English teaching.This will enrich and improve public college English teaching system and English curriculum and teaching theory.Thus this will promote the development of China's higher education in art and will be helpful in improving art majors' capability in intercultural communication.On the basis of previous studies,this study combined qualitative research with quantitative research,gave art freshmen questionnaire and open-ended interviews,collected and analyzed the data statistics of them according to male and female art students respectively.According to art freshmen's intercultural barriers,the author explored English teaching methods,measures and so on in listening classroom teaching to improve art freshmen's intercultural communication competence.This survey aims to solve the following problems:1)What is the present situation and barriers of art college freshmen's English listening intercultural communication?2)What is the relationship between English listening competence and intercultural communicative competence?3)Are the art students who have been trained and fostered English listening intercultural communicative competence more capable than the art students who haven't been trained English listening intercultural communicative competence?Cultivation of Intercultural Communication Competence in Art College Freshmen's English Listening Teaching is a teaching model which pays attention to cultivating art-majored students' intercultural oral and listening communicative abilities under "Three-class joint training mode".The first class,thus in ordinary English classroom teaching,combines some art professional knowledge with intercultural knowledge.The second class----that is,extracurricular activities.The Third class----namely the extracurricular practical teaching.students ' English societies organize a variety of extracurricular activities to guide art students to form English-way of thinking and constantly enhance their enthusiasm for English learning,use English to gain art related information,complete tasks and continue to experience success,eventually become qualified for communicative activities to improve their intercultural communicative competence.The results reflects that by putting this teaching model into the Experimental listening classroom teaching,all the Experimental students,especially the girls have made greater progress in their English intercultural communicative competence cultivation which getting from comparing the different results of before-use and after-use of intercultural communicative listening training model to the Experimental class with the results of none using of listening training model to the Controlled class according to male and female art freshmen's data collection and analysis.There is a positive correlation between English listening competence and intercultural communicative competence.
