The Tu-wei River,a tributary of Yellow River,flowing through Shen-mu and Ch'ia-hsien county in northern Shen-si Province,cultivated the Shih-mao Site.This thesis first established the chronological sequence in the Tu-wei River Basin and its vicinities through the study of pottery typologies,then the accessible data is divided into three chronological group.On this basis,the thesis carries out the research of settlement patterns in the Tu-wei River Basin from the third millium BCE to the beginning of the second millium BCE with the introduction of GIS(Geographic Information System) spatial analysis.Some attentions are also given to the human-environment relationships.In summary,this thesis sheds some light on the socail process and human-environment interactions in the prehistorical Tu-wei River Basin.Meanwhile,some new research topics are also proposed.
