The Interpretive Theory of Translation proposed by Danica Seleskovitch, founder of the ESIT,is based on her extensive experience of conference interpreting, and thus is of great guiding significance to interpreters' practice. On this ground, the author intends to analyze in this report her own consecutive interpretation performance on the stage of LEDGE bilingual sharing salon from the ITT theory perspective.Seleskovitch holds that interpreting is a communicative act,and that successful interpreting has to transmit "sense" from speakers to listeners.Based on this belief, she further proposed the triangle model of translation process, pointing out that between comprehension and re-expression,there is a mental stage for "de-verbalization".And it is because interpreters have been trained to de-verbalize "sense" with the help of "cognitive complement" that they can successfully remember long passages and accurately reproduce the meaning in target language. With these core concepts in mind, the report intends to summarize the author's successful strategies and improvement areas in her interpreting practice for the benefit of other interpreters in their daily training and practice. This report is divided into four chapters.Chapter one introduces the project background, different roles involved, challenges of and preparations for the project.Chapter two is a brief literature review of the interpretive theory of translation as well as an introduction of the triangle model of translation process.Chapter three summarizes successful tactics adopted in this practice and reasons for unsuccessful interpreting from the ITT theory perspective. Then in chapter four,a reflection is made on the interpreter's performance from the angle of the audience and herself. On this basis, some suggestions are put forward for the reference of other interpreters in their future practice. Finally, the report ends with a conclusion that by actively picking up key terms on the spot, using cognitive context to choose the right equivalent word, and reconstructing information in a logical way,it is possible for one to transmit "sense" and achieve cognitive and affective equivalence.
