De-verbalization is a key stage in the interpretive theory, which is usually used by interpreters in their interpreting practices.Based on sense unit, the core principle of de-verbalization is to convey the message behind language. Some Chinese impromptu speeches have problems like verbosity, ambiguity, lack of logic, etc. Therefore, interpreters need to take specific measures to solve those problems and de-verbalize the speech so as to better convey the message to the audience. This thesis is a practice report based on the author's interpreting practice in the 2018's International Art Toy Show, which analyzes both the successful and unsuccessful de-verbalized cases from the perspective of logic, words and expressions, structure, mood, culture and so on.Finally, the findings of the thesis show that appropriate de-verbalization is necessary for interpreting Chinese impromptu speech, and it is important for interpreters to take both specific strategic measures and macroscopic measures to de-verbalize the Chinese impromptu speech. The significance of this thesis is to provide some useful experiences and strategies for interpreters to improve their performance in future interpreting practices, especially in Chinese impromptu speeches' interpretations.
