The Translation Practice Report On Analyzing The Attributive Clauses Based On Step Up: How Women Can Perform Better For Success

With the continuous development of the economy of China, a variety of self-motivated bestsellers have been widely introduced to China. With the logical and rational argumentative characteristics, these bestsellers have strong practicality and are popular among readers. How to convey the charm of the book to the Chinese target readers has become an issue to many translators. Under the guidance of the supervisor,the author of this report has translated the sixth chapter of the Step Up: How Women Can Perform Better for Success written by a self-motivated bestseller Anju Jain.Due to the rational narrative writing style of the self-motivated bestseller, it is often necessary for the author to make the language logical and rational. The attributive clause not only gives a sufficient explanation and illustration but avoids language repetition,making the structure clear and the writing rational. This is beneficial for the author to fully express a certain point of view. So the author applies a certain number of attributive clauses in Chapter Six. Translation of the attributive clauses has always been difficult in E-C translation process and a headache for many translators. Considering the narrative features of the original book and the differences between English and Chinese sentence structures, the translator takes the Functional Equivalence Theory as the theoretical guidance in the translation process and adopts condensation and division to analyze the translation of attributive clauses in this report.This report mainly consists of three parts: an introduction, the main body and a conclusion. The main contents as follows:Introduction is the first part in which the language features of self-motivated book,the practical significance of translating this kind of book, and the problems in translation process of attributive clauses are presented.The second part is the main body, which is divided into three parts.The first chapter mainly introduces the translation project, academic background of the author, source language features,and the Functional Equivalence Theory of Eugene A.Nida.The second chapter mainly focuses on describing the translation process, which includes preparation,the difficulties in translation process and how to control the quality of the translation.As the key point of the report, the third chapter focuses on analyzing and summarizing the sentence features of attributive clauses in this book. According to the Functional Equivalence translation theory, the author puts forward the division and condensation translation techniques and applies them into the translation practice of attributive clauses.The last part is conclusion, which mainly summaries the translation practice.Specifically speaking, it mainly includes self-improvement ideas through the translation practice and presents some unresolved issues. The author hopes that this report could be helpful to those who will do practice of the same type of translation.
