China has been enhanced its international prestige in the world,which makes some people begin to pay attention to China.If one wants to understand China,he must comprehend its backgrounds,especially its traditional philosophical thoughts.At this time,there are some people begin the study of Chinese traditional philosophy in Harvard campus.In the select translation practice material The Path: What Chinese Philosopher Can Teach Us About the Good Life(excerpts),one of the writers,Professor Michael Puett teaches the course of Chinese traditional ethics and political theory in Harvard.The select part of this book mainly expounds the ideas and thoughts of Confucius.The Professor Michael Puett collaborates with the author Christine Gross-Loh to make the wisdom present us.The purpose of this translation is to make more people clearly know about the ideas and readings on Chinese traditional culture in the view of foreigner scholars.So the precision of translating is the key of this paper.And in philosophical text there are many English attributive clauses to definite the meaning of the authors.Therefore,faithfully translating those complex English attributive clauses becomes the standard of the translated quality.Compared with Chinese,there are many clauses in English of which the most important and complicated are English attributive clauses.The English attributive clauses are the most common and widely used in kinds of books in which the long and complex English attributive clauses become the difficult points in translating.So this paper mainly discusses the four translating strategies of English attributive clauses in the firs three chapters of The Path: What Chinese Philosopher Can Teach Us About the Good Life.In this paper the translator summaries the four kinds of translating strategies of English attributive clauses in the translation process,respectively adopts the strategies of translating into pre-positive structure,coordinate structure,blending structure and adverbial structure combined with the theory of America famous translator Nida's functional equivalence.while in the second strategies of translating attributive clauses into coordinate structure also can be classified two kinds,including repeating the antecedent and omitting the antecedent.This paper focused on the translation of English attributive clauses contains four basic parts of the introduction,description of translation process,the case analysis of translation and summary.But because of the restriction of the author,the contents of the translation become a little blunt.So the author hopes to constantly accumulate the translating experience,improves the quality of translation and makes the language more accurate and vivid in the following translation practice.
