Taiwan Tales is a collection of 8 English short stories with various topics and writing styles. The stories were respectively created by 8 local and expat authors, all of whom are members of Taipei Writers Group.Based on the reality of Taiwan, the book's plots are fancy enough and never boring. The book would show you many special aspects of Taiwan, which could make readers accessible to more fresh ideas. The brief words sensibly give such a vivid description of plots, dialogues and mental activities that the stories may fill the readers'minds with colorful emotions. What's more, through joint efforts of the three translators, the Chinese version of Taiwan Tales has been available in Chinese mainland since November 2016. It is worth mentioning that the "Taiwan" in these tales is mainly from the mind of foreign authors, so how to translate it objectively and exactly is really a challenge for translators. In summary, this translation would help us know better about Taiwan, China from the view of western people, and it would surely promote the cultural exchange in the Cross-Strait relations and provide a different taste for Chinese readers. The sixth chapter of the book, Dragon's Call, is selected here as the target of the translation report. It is a fantasy, from which you can recognize the writing features of the whole book. This report is based on more than 13,000 Chinese characters of the translation, and it comprises five parts:The first part is an introduction to the book, including its topics, settings, writing styles and its authors; also it introduces about the significance of the translation. The second part is the task description, including the introduction to the selected passage and its features, and the translation goals. The third part is about the translation process: pre-translation, while-translation and post-translation.The fourth part is case analysis. Some translation questions and cultural barriers are presented in this part followed by translator's ideas and solutions from several existing translation strategies. The last part is the conclusion of the report. It tries to give a summary of the task in terms of experience and inspirations combined with some translation theories as a mirror for other translators.
