Motivational books are quite popular among readers nowadays. The names of such books are commonly seen on the bestseller lists. Therefore,the discussion of approaches for translating motivational books is practical and meaningful for translators. The main purpose of motivational books is to encourage the readers to learn from the successful people, so as to achieve their goals in life. So it is important to discuss the translation approaches which can serve the realization of the translation goals.This paper is a translation report based on Angela Duckworth's motivational book:Grit: the Power of Passion and Perseverance. Angela Duckworth, known as an American psychologist and science writer, founded an educational nonprofit organization called Character Lab. Her lab studies grit and self-control and it has made outstanding contribution to the study of psychology of success. The book Grit: the Power of Passion and Perseverance is the masterpiece of Angela Duckworth. Through the author's personal experience and careful observation, it tells people that grit is essential to succeed and encourages people to pursue their dreams. By studying the real cases, this paper means to discuss the instructiveness of the Skopos theory in translating motivating books.In the report,there are three main chapters. Chapter ? is a brief introduction to the project, including the author, her work and the whole project. Chapter ? is a description of the translation process with two main parts: translation preparation and translation description. Chapter ? is case analysis, which includes three parts: translation of different stylistic features, translation skills and the difficulties in translation. As to translation skills, there are three points: choice of words, transformation of sentence structure and passage cohesion. Difficulties in translation mainly include two aspects: the different cultural backgrounds and figures of speech. The third part is the core of the report. The last one is a systematical conclusion to the report with the gains which have been tested by practice. And I hope the report can provide reference for this kind of translation in the future.
