Return Of Tradition:Cultural Hegemony And Discipline In The Revival Of Minjian Guoxue

The concept of "guoxue",which ceased to draw attention for more than four decades,was resuscitated almost overnight in mainland China in the name of "guoxue fever" in the 1990s.A variety of forums appeared on TV;universities established guoxue classes;people started to wear hanfu;Confucius commemoration rituals became popular;"Sishu" schools appeared all over the country.The whole society were in fever of developing guoxue.Taking "minjian guoxue" as the topic,the present thesis tries to understand what "minjian guoxue" is and observes;why "minjian guoxue" becomes popular;how "minjian guoxue" influence the people,and the relationship between "minjian guoxue" and the state.It is a study of cultural hegemony and the theory of discipline from an anthropological perspectiveThis thesis is introduced in five parts.The first part is the introduction of background and significance of my topic,the review of existing researches,the related concepts as well as the thesis framework;The second part is the introduction to the place of.my fieldwork,includes the origin,institutions,funds and agency personnel.The third part analyzes the relationship between "guoxue" and the state from the reasons of "guo xue fever",and learning how state uses "guoxue" to compete for cultural leadership.and analyze the features of "minjian guoxue" and the role of the folk intellectuals.The forth part discuss how "minjian guoxue" influence people with rules,spaces,authoritative rites and order form.The last part is summary and reflection.The popular of "guoxue" is the return of Chinese tradition,which meet the need of China's social ethics system reconstruction.We must pay attention to the heritage and development of traditional culture in order to set up cultural self-confidence and realize a completely modernization.
