Linguistic Characteristics Of Huang Zunxian's Poetry And The Formation Of His Status In The History Of Poetry

China is a nation rich in poetry. From the Zhou, Qin, Han, Wei to the Tang and Song dynasties, classical Chinese poetry gradually reaches a heyday. However, the poetry declines since the Jin dynasty. And the Sanqu and romantic dramas lead the trend in the Yuan and Ming dynasty.Before the late Qing dynasty, although many schools of poetry, they do not get rid of the limitations of predecessor poetry. In the middle and lower leaves of the nineteenth century,things changed,the door opened to the outer world, modern western civilization brought a strong shock to the closed-door society,forcing a group of people who wanted to change the status quo, trying to seek the salvation of the society. Huang Zunxian's was one of them.Huang Zunxian is the backbone of the " Poetry Revolution " in the late Qing dynasty. He not only personally experienced the lament of late Qing defeated by western gunboats, but also traveled all over the world,experienced the advance of the west, because of his diplomat status. With the effect of the two aspects, Huang Zunxian's poetic creation has special value,based on the intense collision between the classicality and reality in his poems.At present, there are a lot of academic researches on Huang Zunxian's poems, but most focus on his life,the development and achievements in politic,education and other aspects of his poems, as well as the position in the history of literature. But precisely they are lack of analysis about "Poetry is the art of language" which is the essential attribute of poetry. Combined with previous research results,this paper attempts to study Huang's poems through linguistics. The purpose is to show the characteristics and development of Huang Zunxian's poems through more detailed and rigorous linguistic analysis. Furthermore, based on predecessors'comments on Huang Zunxian and his poems, the paper attempts to explore his position in the history of poetry.The main part of the paper consists of four chapters. The first chapter introduces the reasons for the choice of topic,research status, significance and methods. The second chapter gives a brief account of Huang Zunxian's life, which is divided into three periods:youth, stationed abroad, carrying out new deal at home. The third chapter analyzes a certain amount of Huang poems from the perspectives of phonetic, vocabulary, rhetoric, sentence and other linguistic angles, and shows the characteristics of his poems. The fourth chapter aims to introduce his status in the history of poetry.
