The Relationship Between Social Support And Quality Of Life Of Air Force Pilots

The air force pilots as a special military group engage in the job with higher tension and dangerous. They often work in a narrow airplane cockpit and usually conduct simulated war, therefore, their life style is relatively single and have to follow the commander's order. It's easy to result in mental problems with huge pressures and then influence their normal development of body and mind. Relative studies indicated that the army personnel with high strength situation was easy to damage their physical and mental health. Hence, researchers should pay more attention to the physical and mental health of air force pilot who are in high altitude and high tension environment.The present study selected 185 air force pilots who came to do treatment in Hangzhou haiqin liaoyangyuan to participate in this research. We adopted Quality of Life Assessment Scale(TDL-QOLAS), Trait Coping Style Questionnaire(TCSQ), Social Support Rating Scale(SSRS) and Self Consistency and Congruence Scale (SCCS) to explore the quality of life of air force pilots, the influence of social support, self consistence and congruence, coping style on quality of life and further to explore whether there exists mediating effect between self consistency and congruence, copying style and social support, quality of life.We adopted descriptive statistics, difference examination, correlation analysis, regression analysis and mediating effect examination methods to respectively explore the relationships among all variables. The results showed that the quality of life of air force pilots was in medium level in general and was not influenced by their marital status. But there existed in significant difference among different military ranks in the level of quality of life, that is to say, the higher military rank, the lower quality of life. In addition, air force pilots' social support status was well in general and the level of subjective support was higher, but the utilization rate of support was relative low. And marital status had significant influence on social support of air force pilots, in other words, the married pilots' subjective support level was significantly higher than unmarried pilots. Besides, pilots'social support had significant influence on different military ranks and the division level cadres'social support level was lower. And also, air force pilots' self consistency and congruence degree and trait copying style had significant influence on military rank. Moreover, there existed significant difference between social support, self consistency and congruence,copying style and quality of life. Social support, self consistency and congruence and copying style could directly predict quality of life. And social support could influence quality of life via changing copying style and self consistency and congruence. There was significant mediating effect between trait copying style, self consistency and congruence and social support, quality of life.To sum up, air force pilots' social support could influence quality of life and social support could affect quality of life via changing copying style and self consistency and congruence. Trait copying style, self consistency and congruence had mediating effect on social support and quality of life.The present study had explored the pilots' quality of life and its influencing factors and found that if owning good social support, then it would own good self consistency and congruence. Besides, it would promote air force pilots'quality of life by adopting positive copying style.
