An Anlysis Of Ancient Morpheme Retained In Compounds Of Modern Chinese

A lot of monosyllabic words in ancient Chinese cannot be used independently in modern Chinese.They can only use in the compounds of modern Chinese and idioms as a morpheme.This morpheme often keep the ancient meanings.This is the Chinese academic consensus.There have been many books and articles touches on this phenomenon it does not go into it deeply.This paper attempts to analysis this phenomenon that the ancient meanings in compounds of modern Chinese.This paper is divided into five chapters.First of all,we review the history of the research.This paper is divided into two stages,the early stage and the later stage.Then summarizes the achievements,and points out the existing problems and the problems that need to be solved.Secondly,this paper puts forward the concept of " morpheme of Ancient meaning".We analyzes and defines its intension and extension in theory.The morpheme of Ancient meaning is defined as: The monosyllabic words of ancient Chinese develop into a morpheme in compounds of modern Chinese,the morpheme which is Ancient meaning and is not a word.According to the different situation of meaning,the ancient meaning of morpheme is divided into two major categories: One is meaning of ancient and modern.Another one is meaning of ancient and modern has not changed.What’s more,with the "modern Chinese Dictionary"(the Sixth Edition)as the sample,corpus in this paper are came from the word of this dictionary.We investigate the basic situation that the meaning of ancient Chinese in compounds of modern Chinese.Summarizes the characteristics of the ancient meaning of morpheme meanings retained in compounds in modern Chinese.And this summary reflected the number,scope and characteristics which the the meaning of ancient Chinese in compounds of modern Chinese.Finally,It is an exposition of the theoretical significance and practical value of this paper.The theoretical significance is helpful to deepen the theory of Chinese words(including the relationship between the inheritance and development of ancient and modern words,the internal form of words etc.);There is some value which communicate the meaning of ancient and modern,explain the meaning of morden Chinese with the ancient meaning,understand ancient meaning through the meaning of morden Chinese.And also to promote the ancient Chinese and modern Chinese teaching,improve the national Chinese literacy.
