Zhou Sicong is an outstanding contemporary female artist. With realism as the originator, her art works tries to explore the possibility of the integration between Chinese traditional art and western modern art. In addition to reflect the change and development of contemporary Chinese painting, she found the starting point in the social life and inner feelings. Therefore, it is necessary to study Zhou Sicong's works deeply.Generally speaking, Color is the most prominent features of Zhou Sicong's painting, while the study on the works of Zhou Sicong's color is relatively weak. Based on color as commencing point, Zhou Sicong's painting career and the transformation of her artistic style were analyzed in this paper. At first, combining the artistic chromatics, the color psychology, the narrative science and the art theory of realism, expressionism, feminist, symbolism and so on, the use of color and the aesthetic value were studied by the research method of image from different stages of Zhou Sicong's art works. And then the understanding of the social environment of Chinese painting artists were formed and its influence upon artistic creation on the foundation of the real social life. At last, the possibility of the modernization of Chinese painting is explored form the transformation Zhou Sicong's artistic color style.The main contents of this paper as follows:In the first section, The influence of Xu Jiang's system on the color view of Chinese painting in twentieth Century was reviewed from the social development of Zhou Sicong's youth and the origin of realistic painting, especially the convergence of Chinese and Western cultures to explore the artistic ideas of Zhou Sicong. Finally, the use of color and aesthetic analysis in the creation of Zhou Sicong's realism were explored from the angle of the humanistic spirit of compassion.In the second section, the content and form of the'miners'is interpreted from Zhou Sicong's art exploration stage, and the color of Expressionism at this stage has been sorted by the method of narration, in which the strong tragedy color at her creation process is highlighted. In the third section, the influence of the self cognition of Zhou Sicong's female identity on the artistic color application during her mature period is analyzed, especially the feminist aesthetics in the series of works about Yi women. Besides, The uniqueness of Chinese traditional art and the depth of Zhou Sicong's emotional thought in Zhou Sicong's works are reflected by comparing with the Kollwitz Art, while Zhou Sicong's image of children and women is analyzed, particularly the eyes without pupils of the female image, which is an art symbol in color space.In the forth section, the spirit of detachment in the color of Zhou Sicong's lotus painting is introduced in detail. Her artistic soul of detachment doesn't only gives lotus--a natural symbol to life, is also a symbol of the style at Zhou Sicong's late art painting and the new height of her understanding about traditional freehand spirit.
