A Practice Report On Interpreting At The Sino-Indian IT Corridor Construction Symposium In Light Of Gile's Effort Model

In recent years,with the diversification of the global economy,people's demands for English professional ability have also increased.In the field of consecutive interpretation,the problem of split of attention has always been 'an important factor restricting the interpretation ability.As a high load interpreting activity,it has high requirements for the interpreter's listening,memory,information analysis and output.Therefore,in order to successfully complete the interpreting task,in addition to the enhancement of the professional ability and adjustment of the mental quality,the interpreter should use many strategies to decrease the capacity of requirement at each stage of the task and make the total capacity requirement be lower than the interpreter's available capacity,so as to help the interpretation proceed smoothly.For analyzing the importance of split of attention in interpretation activities,this thesis will take the Sino-Indian IT Corridor Construction Symposium as the case and takes the spokesperson's speech from PDRC in this report as the analysis object,and uses the Gile's effort model as a guidance to analyze the imbalance of split of attention in the bilingual ability,listening ability,short-term memory,note taking and translation so as to conclude several countermeasures to improve the interpreter's intra-lingual knowledge and extra-linguistic knowledge,so as to achieve effective split of attention.In terms of in-lingual knowledge,interpreters can use information prediction and other methods to improve listening;In terms of extra-lingual knowledge,interpreters need to accumulate expertise in different fields to enhance encyclopedic knowledge;Interpreters can use sight translation exercises and speech training to cultivate language sense and enhance information analysis and reorganization ability to improve the language impression ability and we can also enhance visual information processing ability through visual memory and selective memory,thereby improving short-term memory ability,and reflecting on translation practice activities,the significance is to reduce the interpreting pressure brought about by the imbalance of split of attention,which has a certain effect on the interpreter's ability to analyze and coordinate the split of attention.Finally,the author believes that only when the tasks are coordinated and the attention is attributed reasonably,can the task of the interpretation be successfully completed.
