Honggaoliang Jiazu is a masterpiece of the famous Chinese writer,Mo Yan.The English version of this novel was translated by Howard Goldblatt who is a famous American Sinologist. The English version has been unanimously praised since it was published in America. Moreover, this English version has certain reference meanings to the translation of Chinese literary works. However, less attention has been paid to it.Furthermore, the research on this English version is relatively small in the field of translation up to now.In addition, relevant documents which can be retrieved are not written by scholars in the translation circle.Meanwhile,no one has concentrated on the translator's subjectivity in Goldblatt's English version of Honggaoliang Jiazu from the perspective of reception aesthetics.Hence, the thesis attempts to analyze the translator's subjectivity displayed and the effect achieved in Goldblatt's English version from the perspective of reception aesthetics. The thesis aims to provide some advisable and helpful suggestions about the selection of translation strategies and techniques for Chinese literary translation. It has certain reference meanings to the promotion of Chinese culture and stories.Translators are the subjects of translation.Their subjectivities are closely related with their own initiative and creativity,so the display of subjectivities is of great significance in the translation process and the translator's subjectivity is the primary condition to ensure the success of the translation.Meanwhile,to make the target readers understand and accept the translated text,a translator should fully take the target readers into account and properly adopt the translation strategies of foreignization and domestication, and the translation techniques such as omission, rewriting, and addition of notes after considering target readers' social ideology, cultural background, and religious beliefs to get fusion of horizons with target readers.
