Personality Explains The Difference Between Creativity And Lying Ability

Most people believe that creativity and lying are barely related.However,with more and more researches of creativity indicated that there might be a possible correlation between creativity and lying behavior,and thus leads to social concerns.There is no clear and unambiguous conclusion about the relationship between creativity and lying yet,and there are fewer studies involving lying ability,the core of this relationship.The purpose of this study is trying to explore the relationship between creativity and the lying ability,which is explained by finding their roots in personality characteristics.107 university students were recruited in line with research ethics standard.Opened-end questionnaire and creativity tests were used in this study in order to get all aspects of individual's creativity.Based on the previous research conclusion,a new internal structure of lying ability were addressed in this study,lying ability should involve the lying fluency,the lying usefulness,the lying originality.Individual's lying ability was evaluated by the localized questionnaire Revision based on the Social Dilemmas designed by Walczyk.The questionnaire contained three scenarios where the protagonist had to straighten out contradictions in a lie and make it plausible.The other research method-including the 16PF Personality Inventory in Chinese version,Chinese Remote Associates Test and the unusual usage test.And address the following conclusions through the whole study,(1)There is no relationship between creativity and lying ability.(2)Different personality characteristics explain the difference between creativity and lying ability.(3)There is a significant negative correlation between the lying usefulness and the lying fluency.(4)There is a significant positive correlation between lying originality and the lying fluency.The current study reveals the relationship between creativity and lying ability,with the explanation of personality characteristics.At the same time,the results found in current study will not only give a clear guide for better understanding of lying psychology,but also provide valuable practical evidence for creativity psychology in the future.
