The thesis is a translation report on the translation of Enhancing the Potential of Family Farming for Poverty Reduction and Food Security through Gender-Sensitive Rural Advisory Service. The source text is a formal and professional academic report on gender-sensitivity and family farming.Recent years, increasing attention is paid to gender equality in agriculture and the academic exchange is becoming more and more frequent. In this circumstance, translation plays an important role in the study of this issue. The author gives an introduction to the background information, the significance and the structure of the report, elaborates upon the contents, the analysis of the source text as well as the preparation before translation, and discusses the main difficulties in the translation process. The difficulties can be concluded into three levels. At the level of the title and subtitles, communicative translation and semantic translation is alternatively adopted. At the level of vocabulary, the author discusses the translation of terms and abbreviations. At the level of sentence, attributive clause and passive voice are detailed and corresponding tactics are explored.Under the guidance of communicative translation and semantic translation put forward by Peter Newmark, the author explores the methods in compliance with the features of the source text and enriches the case study of academic translation. It is hoped that this report can be useful for further study on similar texts.
