This is a report on the translation of Chapters Eight and Nine of The Gendered Society written by Michael Kimmel, and so far,its Chinese version is not available. Those two chapters translated by the translator mainly focus on two parts, the differences between men and women in the religion and many unequal treatments women suffered in the workplaces. The report is based on the translation theory named Text Typology Theory advocated by Peter Newmark. The Gendered Society mainly contains informative text assisted by expressive text.So the translation strategies adopted are communicative translation and semantic translation. This report consists of five chapters. The first chapter gives a brief introduction to the original text and its author. In the second chapter, the translation task process is described in terms of pre-translation,translation process and post-translation.In the third chapter,Peter Newmark's translation strategy is elaborated. In the fourth chapter, the translated text is analyzed with cases at the lexical level, syntactic level, textual level and cultural level. The translation techniques such as shifting, amplification, inversion, division and annotation are discussed. In the last chapter, the findings from translation are summarized.Under the guide of Text Typology Theory,it is workable to translate the sociological book. The significance of the translation project is to provide reference for other scholars who study gender inequality in America after the Second World War and for domestic scholars who do comparative studies of women status in the workplaces.
