A Practice Report On The Translation Of Jiangxi Spring Festival Customs

In the time of world globalization,the transmission of Chinese traditional culture has great significance.The translation of Chinese traditional culture is the bridge of interaction between China and foreign countries.Jiangxi Spring Festival customs is one part of Chinese folk culture and also the name card of Jiangxi local folk culture.Introducing Jiangxi Spring Festival customs to foreign readers is beneficial for the world to have a better understanding of Jiangxi local customs.This report is based on the version of Chinese-English translation project of Jiangxi Spring Festival customs which are intercepted from a same name book with about ten thousand words.This report intends to discuss the translation of folk culture.Up to now,no English versions have been published.As a local citizen,the author is very honored to have the opportunity to translate the Jiangxi folk culture.In the process of translation,a lot of culture-loaded words and sentences with rich connotations have been found.In order to translate the materials,the author has looked up many books about culture translation,folk culture translation,foreignization and domestication,and related information about culture-loaded words.Culture is the key to determining the information core,and translation is not only to express one language into another,but also to expound the differences between two cultures.Wang Zuoliang once said: “When the translator is dealing with two different language,in fact he is confronted with two different cultures.” After comparing,the author will use the foreignization and domestication as translation guidance.In order to deliver culture information,six methods are suggested in translation as follows:transliteration plus annotation,literal translation plus annotation,adoption of the common practice,compensation,omission and rewriting.Those methods are not totally independent,but combining them together can easily achieve the goal of introducing Jiangxi Spring Festival customs effectively.In translating Jiangxi Spring Festival customs,the author should pay attention to the rich folk culture behind themand retain their national flavor.
