From the end of last century, along with the rapid development of Internet, China and the rest of the world have been sharing another faster and more convenient means of communication. Chinese people have a better channel to know foreign cultures, and, at the same time, Chinese culture can be promoted to the rest of the world in an easier way. Coming along with internet culture is the Internet buzzwords. They exist in all fields of Internet and real life:politics and economics, science and technology, social life and culture. The number of Internet buzzwords is becoming huge, and keeps increasing, and many of them have a feature of mutual absorbing and fusion, and they come across the problem of being translated into another language in intercultural communication.This thesis analyzed the main sources, categories, formation and features of Internet buzzwords both in English and Chinese, and also proved the importance of cultural contents in translation. Dynamic Equivalence theory, Spokos theory and Venuti’s theory have been used to analyze the methods and effects of Internet buzzword translation, and the advantages and disadvantages of these theories have been also illustrated.In the background of cultural globalization, this thesis analyzed the application of various methods towards Internet buzzword translation from the aspect of the choice of domestication and foreignization. In this thesis, C-E/E-C translations of internet buzzwords, in the fields of politics, economics, social life and culture, are chosen as study cases, and the analysis, which is based on the statistics of the application of domestication or foreignization strategies in the translation of different categories of Internet buzzwords, shows the portions of these two translation strategies applied in different categories at present, and the related causes and environment are analyzed as well. The factors affecting the choice of strategies are analyzed from the theories of linguistic cognition, social cognition and reception theory. And the suggestion to the choice of translation strategy is also offered for a more effective translation of Internet buzzword. Only by adopting the proper translation strategy and techniques, accurate and thorough understandings towards the phenomenon in aspects of politics, economics, social life and culture can be achieved between Chinese culture and western culture in the era of Internet.
