Analysis Of The Application Of Domestication And Foreignization Strategies In Interpreting Of Foreign Affairs From The Perspective Of Intercultural Communication

Nowadays, the trend of globalization is irreversible. Under this situation, China has become the second world economic power, at the same time, foreign affairs of China have entered a prosperous period. China is playing a more and more significant role in international affairs and bigger say, which indicates that China will contact with other countries more and more frequently. Under this situation, interpreters of foreign affairs have become the key during intercultural communication. The quality of translation is related directly to the honor and interests of our country, even to the role of China in the world. As a result, the interpreting of foreign affairs is of great significance.Interpreting is a kind of intercultural activity, while the interpreting of foreign affairs, due to its own features, is much closely connected to culture. According to this, the author chooses the intercultural communication as the theoretic foundation. On the occasion of interpreting of foreign affairs, people from different countries not only have understanding obstacles, but also have differences in cultural backgrounds, customs and modes of thinking and so on. In addition, the features of interpreting of foreign affairs determine its requirement for high quality translation. Under this high pressure, it is not an easy task for interpreters to interpret. However, interpreters need translation strategies to finish such a difficult task. The object of the study and the theory that the author chooses are both related to culture, so the translation strategies that the thesis chooses is also related to culture, which are the strategies of domestication and foreignization.The strategies of domestication and foreignization were first mentioned by Venuti, who is the theorist in translation field in America. The thesis, based on intercultural communication theory, analyzing strategies of domestication and foreignization, and combining the features of interpreting of foreign affairs, analyses the application of domestication and foreignization strategies in interpreting of foreign affairs from the perspective of intercultural communication. In practical analysis, the thesis chooses the data of Speech by Xi Jinping Chairman of the People’s Republic of China at UNESCO Headquarters in 2014, and puts it on the basis of intercultural communication, then analyzes translation skills like "paraphrase", "deletion", "literal translation" and "transliteration" in interpreting of foreign affairs in order to prove the instructive value of the analysis.Analyzing the application of domestication and foreignization strategies in interpreting of foreign affairs from the perspective of intercultural communication will not only have practical significance in related research fields, but also help interpreters of foreign affairs to choose more appropriate translation strategies in order to promote a smooth communication between countries.
