Being a university history textbook,The American People introduces the American history in an objective way, which is awarded as the most comprehensive material for learning American history. The author wrote this report on the basis of translation of one of the chapters of The American People,so as to offer some suggestions to the related text translation by analyzing the problems and the solutions.Based on the translation theory of Peter Newmark, this paper aims to analyze and summarize the translation by means of exemplification. Before the translation, the author made all-round preparations, including analyzing the language features of the source text, taking Peter Newmark's translation theory as guiding theory. The author took the method of Communicative Translation as the guiding principle because the book belongs to the Informative Text.In the process of translation, many difficulties occurred, including the translation of characteristic expressions, restrictive attribute clauses and complicated sentences. In order to make the target version better and achieve communicative effect, the author used free translation, omission, combination and construction methods to translate the text.At the end of this paper, the author summed up both the strength and weakness of the translation and gave suggestions to related translation.
