A Translation Report On Study Of Deng Xiaoping's Theory On Social Construction (Chapter 3)

This thesis is a translation report.The selected text is chapter three in Study of Deng Xiaoping's Theory on Social Construction.This book was written by Li Xuelin,Pan Erchun and Wu Jingyan.It was honored with an achievement award presented by the National Social and Scientific Fund Program in 2011.It is an academic works with 400,000 words and specializes in Deng Xiaoping's theory on social construction.It gives a large scale study on the developmental process and the system info of the theory.Nowadays,China is developing with a high speed and its international status is increasingly improved.The international community feels surprised about China's great changes in such short two or three decades.They want to find the reasons out.Thus,it is necessary to introduce the ideological and theoretical basis of our development to the outside world.To translate Deng Xiaoping's theory on social construction is a positive way to present our advanced ideological achievement to the whole world.The chapter three introduces the three phases of the development of the theory on social construction.It concludes the sequence of the development and it is an important part of this book.The report consists of four parts altogether.The first part is the introduction.The second part is to discuss the core theory of Peter Newmark—semantic translation and communicative translation.Combining to the text typology,writer discusses the application of ST and CT.The third part is cases analysis,describes some difficulties in translation,such as terms with Chinese characteristics,repetitive terms,long sentences,non-subject sentences and so on.Based on text typology,this translation practice,combining with specific cases,analyzes the source language at lexical and syntactic level and discusses the application of ST and CT in translation for political essay.The fourth part concludes two translation principles that translators should follow and summarizes the experiences and lessons acquired from the translation practice.
