This thesis is a translation practice report. The assignment of this translation practice is the first chapter of Climate Shock, which is a sci-tech English work written by Gernot Wagner and Martin L.Weitzman.The sci-tech English text is strict in logic and it has compact structure. The content of sci-tech English text usually involves advanced scientific technology,so the translation should be as close as possible to the source language so as to achieve the purpose of introduction of scientific and technical knowledge and transmission of scientific information. The translator chooses Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory to direct this translation practice and analyzes the significance of Functional Equivalence Theory to the sci-tech English translation from the perspectives of lexis and syntax. The translator also expounds the methods of realizing the accuracy and professionalism and summarizes the translation strategies used in this translation practice. The translator hopes that these translation strategies will be useful for guiding the translation activities related to science and technology.
