With the continuous progress of science and technology, international academic works in the field of science and technology are constantly springing up.The academic works of science and technology are indispensable means of exchange and dissemination of scientific and technological achievements,so the translation of them has drawn more and more attention.Accuracy, rigor, conciseness and clearness are the requirements for the translation of academic works of science and technology, which are relatively high for translators. The source text(ST)of the translation practice report is excerpted from the original English book Water Resources:A New Water Architecture. This book is written by Alexander lane,Michael Norton and Sandra Ryan and it consists of thirteen chapters. The three authors take a unique approach to a series of severe challenges of water management--a brand-new architecture of water resources. The translator of this report chooses the fourth chapter to translate, which is mainly concerned with the effect of various types of energy on water resources, analyzes the problems existing in the translation process and discusses the translation methods,on which the author accomplishes this translation practice report, which is designed to provide some reference for those who are engaged in the translation of water conservancy and hydropower. This report is divided into five chapters, including the description of the translation project, the description of the translation procedure, the overview of the translation principle, the case analysis and the conclusion of the translation process. The translator adopts Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory for an analysis of the problems in the translation process and their solutions at the lexical, syntactic and discourse levels and discusses some translation methods with a sufficient number of examples. In translating vocabularies, the author appropriately uses Chinese four-character words to achieve the expected language function of the original text.In translating sentences, the author analyzes the problems from the level of grammatical and semantic structure to study how to translate sentences with different methods. In the level of discourse, the author focuses on analyzing it from grammatical reference and lexical cohesion. In the process of analyzing these problems, the author takes into consideration the differences between English and Chinese to achieve full equivalence between ST and TT in both function and meaning.
