A Report On The C-E Translation Of The History Of Kites (Excerpts)

Nowadays,with the inceasing acceleration of globalization,the translation of traditional culture has become more and more important.However,the large number of culture-loaded words in traditional culture form a hurdle for translators,to which the present author pays great attention and tries to figure out solutions.In order to facilitate the smooth spread of traditional culture,translators have to work at the translation of traditional culture with great care and deal with various culture-loaded words flexibly according to real conditions.Chinese kites were invented during the Spring and Autumn Period,and they have a history of more than 2,000 years so far.Thanks to the constant development and perfection,flying kites become a popular recreational activity both at home and abroad.Many books,of which The History of Kites is relatively complete,have been published to give a systematic introduction to kites from the origins of kites,kites and customs,the development of kites to foreign kites.In order to facilitate foreign readers to have a better understanding of Chinese kite culture,the present author applies different translation strategies to the translation of different types of culture-loaded words under the guidance of the Skopos theory and by taking the book as an example.The present author adopts transliteration and transliteration with annotation for names in the book;interpretation and transformation for classical stories;and free translation and literal translation for locutions and poems.
