The Diochronic Evolution In "Stupid" Conceptual Domain In Chinese

In modern Chinese Mandarin,words like“?”(ch?n)?“?,(bèn)?“?”(sh?)are used to describe "stupid".In fact,there are other words,in the history of Chinese,to express this concept,such as“?”(Yu)?“?”(wan)?“?”(chi)?“?”(dai)etc.We put all the word together as"Stupid Conceptual Domain4".Language is changing and developing,and the vocabulary system has different characteristics in different historical periods.An important change of the lexical system is that there are both temporary replacement within the conceptual domain and emergence of the new members.This paper,taking the conceptual domain as background and focusing on the members of "Stupid" Conceptual Domain,study the historical distribution and evolution characteristics of it.The dissertation consists of four chapters:The first chapter isintroduced some questions about the research objectives.In the second chapter,based on the research methods of the combination of diachronic evolution and synchronic distribution,combination of qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis as well as combination of description and explanation,this paper investigate the distribution of the member of "Stupid Conceptual Domain" in ancient times,mid-ancient times and modern times,such as the usage frequency,the combination and the meaning changes of "stupid" words.In the third chapter,through the investigation the combination of "stupid"and other adjective,this paper analyzes the of the word-formation ability and the emergence and development of disyllabic words relating the"stupid" meaning,and puts emphasizes on the analysis of the process of morphemization of“?(yu)”Then,according to the complexity of adjective words,semantic emphasis as well as the usage in different times,this paper analyzes the unbalanced development the "stupid" words and the diachronic substitution of the leading words in "stupid" concept domain.The forth chapter of this papernotes and studies changes of the meaning of "stupid" words to the modest words as well as its reasons.Through the study of the above problems,this paper tries to explore the generation,development and evolution of "Stupid Conceptual Domain" in the whole history of Chinese language.
