With the development of China's economy and society,tourist industry has become one of the pillar industries of China's economy.As an indispensable part of tourist industry,hospitality industry has also witnessed significant development.Comparatively speaking,as new starters,hoteliers in China have to learn modern hotel management from hoteliers in developed countries.The source text of this translation report is an excerpt from Are You An Ostrich Or A Llama written by Larry Mogelonsky,a Canadian expert in hotel operation and management.In accordance with Newmark's text typology,texts can be divided into informative texts,expressive texts and vocative texts.The source text of the report belongs to informative text which emphasizes on transmitting information of the source text.The author,under the guidance of Newmark's communicative translation theory,employs the strategy of domestication and techniques of amplification,omission,conversion and restructuring to make sure that the version is suitable for the need of target language readers.The paper contains five parts.The first part is the introduction.The second part is the source text analysis,including the content and the linguistic characteristics of the source text.Part three is about the communicative translation theory used in the report.Part four is the application of communicative translation theory in the report.And the last part is the conclusion.The translation report aims to summarize what the author has gained from the translation project on the one hand,and wishes to provide a case for the translation of hotel management texts and to provide a new material for domestic researchers studying on translation on hotel management texts on the other hand.
