This report is based on the English-Chinese translation of Habibi by Naomi Shihab Nye. Habibi is a novel about young adult written by Naomi Shihab Nye in 1997. It is semi-autobiographical. It is nominated an ALA Best Book for Young Adults, and there has been no Chinese version until now.With the development and the increase of young adult literature, young adult literature translation develops gradually in our country. However,in today's China mainland,there are a few scholars specialized in doing researches into young adult literature translation,so there is a great gap in theoretical construction compared with foreign countries. Therefore,the project is translated under the guidance of Skopos Theory, and combined with the features of young adult literature, giving top priority to young adults' expectations.The translation report contains five chapters. Chapter one introduces the objective,background, significance of the project, and structure of the report. Chapter two is the brief introduction of the author and the excerpt. Chapter three describes translating process,consisting of pre-translation preparation, translation process and post-translation review,and introduces Skopos Theory. Chapter four analyzes translation difficulties and translation strategies with examples. Chapter five summarizes the experiences and inspirations gained during translation, problems in the target text and limitations of young adult literature in our country, and suggestions to the development of young adult literature in China. |
