An English-Chinese Translation Study From The Perspective Of Feminist Translation Theory

Feminist translation theory is an important theoretical result by the combination of feminist and translation after the "culture turn" of the translation.Translation is not only the conversion process,but also refers to several factors implicated in the language,such as the culture and ideology.Therefore,feminist translation theory implants the gender into translation so as to eliminate the discrimination against female existed in the translation study and practice.The feminist translators give play to the subjectivity in the translation to set out the female's voice and focus on the existence of women.Feminist translation theory overturns the traditional translation concept based on "fidelity",which provides more broader perspective for the translation research and practice.The Pride and Prejudice is the famous masterpiece of British female writer Jane Austen.And this novel is also one of the classical literature with women as the main characters in the west.The thesis chooses Chinese translation scholar Zhang Ling and Zhang Yang's translation as the research text.It has probed into feminist translation strategies used by Zhang Ling in the translation process from the perspective of feminist translation theory so as to provide reference for Chinese feminist translation practice.There are six chapters in the thesis.The chapter one mainly introduces the thesis from the aspects of the research background,research purpose and significance,research questions and methods.The chapter two sums up the feminist translation theory research at home and abroad.The chapter three expounds feminist translation theory from background,main ideas and translation strategies in detail.The chapter four has a simple introduction on the female writer Jane Austen and her works and Chinese female translator Zhang Ling.In the chapter five,Zhang Ling's translation Pride and Prejudice is analyzed mainly from the preface and footnotes,supplement and hijacking strategies.The chapter six summarizes the result of this thesis.With the comparative analysis,the thesis concludes the translation feature of translator Zhang Ling:woman translator Zhang Ling focuses on social status and living condition of women in the process of translation Pride and Prejudice.She develops the translator's subjectivity to try to keep the good image and reveal the presence of women with the help of feminist translation strategies.The thesis hopes that Chinese translators and scholars could pay more attention to the application of feminist translation theory in translation practice and focus on the important role of women.It is a good way to provide methodological support for China's translation.
