The Prediction Of Facial Trustworthiness On Trust Behavior

Trust is one of the most basic principles for people to communicate with each other,which is important in the process of the establishment and maintenance of the trust relationship.In the process of the establishment of the trust relationship,the traits of both sides play an important role in this process.In the case of the trustee,the facial trustworthiness and the behavior or experience of the past can provide a sufficient basis for the trustor making the corresponding trust behavior.On the other hand,the characteristics of the trustor also have a great impact for the trust relationship.In fact,some individuals may tend to trust others and some are hard to trust others.This difference may depend on the general trust propensity.So the differences from the general trust propensity will also influence the establishment of trust relationship.This study investigates the trustee's facial trustworthiness by explicit and implicit measurement methods,and measures the trust behavior and the disposition to trust others through the trust game paradigm and the general trust propensity questionnaire respectively.The study aims to investigate the influence of the trustee's facial trustworthiness on the trustor's trust behavior in a situation where both parties are not familiar with each other.On the basis of this study,we will farther explore the influence of general trust propensity in the process of the establishment of the trust relationship.Finally,we will analyze the results by using Hierarchical Liner Modeling(HLM).The results are as follows:(1)The study found that the explicit facial trustworthiness can predict the trust behavior.The individuals were more likely to show trust behavior to the person who had the higher explicit facials trustworthiness.(2)The experimental result showed that the individual's general trust propensity played an important moderating role between explicit facial trustworthiness and trust behavior.The people would more likely to judge based on facial trustworthiness as long as the individual had the higher general trust propensity.(3)In study two,the implicit facial trustworthiness was investigated by using the picture priming paradigm,and the predictive effect of implicit facial trustworthiness on the trust behavior was found.The individuals were more likely to show trust behavior to the person who had the higher implicit facials trustworthiness.(4)We found a gender difference in the predictive effect of implicit facial trustworthiness on the trust behavior.When making the decision of trust behavior,men were more likely to be affected by the implicit facial trustworthiness than women.
