The Effect Of Facial Trustworthiness On Trust Behavior:the Role Of Behavioral Trustworthiness And Intuitive Thinking

Trust plays a significant role in interpersonal relationships.As a special information carrier,the face can provide clues for the individual's trust behavior.Facial trustworthiness is a face-based trait inferences.When there is no other effective clues for trust,the facial trustworthiness will significantly affect the trust behavior.On the one hand,in addition to faces,the behavioral trustworthiness of the trustee also affects the trust behavior.On the other hand,the individual differences in the personality traits or cognitive styles of the trustee also affect their different reaction trends in the trust behavior.This study believes that intuitive thinking is one of the factors that may influence an individual's reaction on facial trustworthiness in trust behavior.Intuitive thinking has a fast,unconscious processing character.The existing research shows that the processing of facial trustworthiness is an intuitive processing,and the judgment of intuitive thinking and the facial trustworthiness is consistent.This study adopts two experimental research paradigms: one-shot trust game and repeated trust game.By combing existing research,the current study uses the rated true male face photo.The behavioral trustworthiness is divided into two different ways of obtaining the behavioral trustworthiness provided by the third party and the behavioral trustworthiness acquired in the interaction.Use the REI-40 questionnaire to measure the intuitive thinking of the participants.The experiment mainly explores the following two problems:(1)when there is behavior information as clue of trust,does the facial trustworthiness still affect the trust behavior of the subject in the trust game?(2)When obtaining different types of behavioral trustworthiness,does the individual's intuitive thinking mediate facial trustworthiness on trust behavior?The results show:(1)Facial trustworthiness affects trust behavior when behavioral trustworthiness is obtained in the form provided by a third party.(2)Facial trustworthiness affects trust behavior when behavioral trustworthiness is obtained in the form acquired in interaction.(3)Intuitive thinking does not mediate the trustworthiness of faces when only faces are presented.(4)Intuitive thinking has a mediate effect on the influence of the facial trustworthiness on the trust behavior,when the face and the behavior information obtained in the form provided by a third party are presented.(5)Intuitive thinking has no mediate effect on the influence of the facial trustworthiness on the trust behavior,when the face and the behavioral information obtained in the form acquired in interaction are presented.
