Although tattoo has become more and more popular among Chinese youth,it is still a cult culture. The source text I chose to translate is a satire taking tattoo as the theme whose author is an American freelance writer called Mark Carver. The title is Indelible, and it's about the great changes of Cameron's life after he got a facial tattoo. The translator hopes that the translation work could help Chinese readers learn more about the tattoo culture in America. For the purpose of better conveying the meaning of the source text instead of its form, the translator follows the functional equivalence theory of Eugene A.Nida.The translation report is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is about the background and the goal of the project. The second chapter contains the introduction of both the author and the work. The third chapter includes the preparation before the project, the works during the project and the revision after finishing the translation. The forth chapter is the most important part,it analyzes the feature of the novel, introduces the skills that the translator adopted under the guidance of the functional equivalence theory, and gives supporting examples. And in the last chapter, the translator summarizes the lessons learned from the project and the remained defects.
