On C-E Translation Of Lexical Items With Chinese Characteristics From The Perspective Of Functional Equivalence

With the deepening of China's reform and opening up and the increase of foreign exchanges,a huge number of lexical items with Chinese characteristics keep emerging.During the two sessions each year,Report on the Work of the Government reviews the work and the results of the Chinese government in the past year or the past five years and makes deployment for the future social construction and economic development.To translate these lexical items with Chinese characteristics accurately is of great importance to the publicity of our country.And Report on the Work of the Government is translated by both domestic and foreign experts,which is worth learning from and studying.Therefore,this thesis focuses on the translation of vocabularies with Chinese characteristics in Report on the Work of the Government from 2014 to 2016 to conduct research and analysis.The theory of functional equivalence was proposed by the American linguist Eugene Nida,which requires that the translators should achieve the "equivalence" between the target language text and the source language text to the fullest.Such "equivalence" is not merely the formal equivalence,but to present the spirits and connotations of the source language in the target language text to the maximum and meanwhile restricts the over exertion of translators,which is of the guiding significance to the translation of political texts.This thesis conducts demonstrative research of the translation of lexical items with Chinese characteristics in Report on the Work of the Government from 2014 to 2016 from the perspective of Nida's functional equivalence,discusses and summarizes the English translation methods of lexical items with Chinese characteristics so as to give suggestions to translation learners,thus better realizing the external publicity of our country and exchanging the communications between our country and the world.
